Quick Training, Lasting Results…

Why I Train:

Every Dog is different. Like people, they are complicated, sophisticated, and autonomous. The path to motivation and bonding is different for every dog–finding it provides me with a unique mental challenge as a trainer. The creation of a bond between dog and guardian is something that lasts for a lifetime. Despite how it may appear in their forever willingness and excitement to see you, this bond is always earned. I help people unlock this potential with their dogs, and I enjoy being a part of fostering the healing relationships that dogs can provide.

As a two time childhood cancer survivor, dogs have been instrumental in my path to recovery from PTSD. When treated with respect, dogs do the same for their people, and become the most diligent caregivers on the planet. For me, dog training began as a much needed function in my life, and developed into one of my greatest passions.

My Background and Qualifications:

I developed my methodologies at the American Humane Association, where I learned how to train a multitude of skills, develop confidence in every rescued dog, and overcome even severe behavioral challenges.

My Methodology:

At Courteous Curs, we believe that every dog is sophisticated, deep, and capable of great feats of trust. When people point to “well trained” dogs and desire that for themselves, what they are observing is a relationship of mutual understanding. There are no “bad” dogs–just people who don’t yet know who their dog is. This process of coming to know your dog is lifelong. What we do is teach dog guardians how to start listening.

William taught my dog Lulu how to heel in fifteen minutes. Then he taught her how to let go of an anxiety disorder. Everyone comments on how much she’s changed.

We worked with other trainers to help our dog Spooky. There would be progress and then regression as soon as the trainer left. William taught us how to communicate with Spooky and improve our bond.
— Chris and Jenny
Dogs don’t need to be dominated. They need to be understood. William understands this.
